Gourmet Dinners with Mrs. V

I've noticed that people seem to really like blogs that post about delicious food. And if you mix in the magic words "kid-friendly" and/or "healthy," well, you've just bought yourself a one-way ticket to Pinterest Legend, my friend.

But let's be real. You spend three hours at the supermarket hunting down rare ingredients that you'll never use again, and then it's another half-day getting everything chopped and marinated and boiled and baked and tossed. And then what do you have? A dinner with a fancy name that sits so long on the kids' plates that it starts catching flies... And about thirty bowls and pans to cram into the dishwasher.

But you pull out an old can of sweet peas, boil some potatoes, and heat up some sausage, and the dinner prayer is followed by the first fifteen minutes of silence you've had all day - with the occasional "mo' ketchup!" - as both children happily inhale the food before them.

True story.
Even Instagram can't make this dinner look fancy...
...but no complaints from the peanut gallery, as you can plainly see!
