San Antonio: An Educational Experience
As many of you know, I am a former teacher. And as such, I have that nasty habit of turning everything I do into a "learning experience." My poor children... they don't have any idea what they're in for... Nonetheless, it is Ingrained in me, and so we must all endure it as best we can. Including you.
Things I Learned from our Anniversary Weekend in San Antonio:
1) Priceline is awesome. Lovely stay for P and Sarah and me at a downtown Marriott for not too much moulah... thanks to the negotiating skills of my Super Husband.
2) One should spend more than $20 on one's umbrella stroller. This is ridiculous. (Note blanket propped behind back in order to provide some kind of support for poor, spaghetti-limp infant.)
3) Starbucks is an appropriate way to start any day. Starbucks with a handsome man? Even better.
4) My daughter is so cute.
5) Frost Bank has been in existence for, like, forever! And Mr. Frost was a very interesting man... a Texas Ranger (among other things) before he settled into a lucrative and long-lasting career in banking. (See, my Learning Experiences are sometimes quite substantial! Thank you, Historical Marker on the Old Frost Bank Building!)
6)San Antonio is hot in August.
7)San Antonio is hot.
8) Hot. *gasp* *sweat* *gasp* *trudge silently pushing stroller*
9) El Mercado is Muy Divertido y Muy Cheapo. Y Muy needs to find better translators for their stuff. (Please click on photos to fully appreciate the merchandise.)
10) Endless gold foil Mexican flag banners + white Christmas lights + over-decorated mini Christmas trees = surprisingly delightful decor for touristy Mexican food restaurant.
11) Too small diapers + over-abundance of baby poop + changing in the backseat of an Accord = unpleasantness for Mommy. (Twice.)
12) The Riverwalk is quite pleasant, especially if Daddy is pushing the stroller so that Mommy gets to walk a step behind and overhear all the reactions from passing strangers about her sweet baby. "Adorable," "precious," "beautiful" were some of the most common remarks. (I'm sorry; I know that's totally conceited, but it really was a fun part of the trip for me... :)
13) The Alamo. Pretty on the outside. Too hot to bother going in.
14) The Missions. Gorgeous on the outside. Too hot to bother going in. (Maybe later, when the kids are old enough for us to bore them to death with all the Historical Significance?)
15) This was a little weird.
16) Guenther House. Go there. Eat Waffles.
17) Distance from a toddler makes the heart grow fonder for him. Many thanks to the in-laws for entertaining him for the weekend!

That little girl is definitely adorable, precious, and beautiful. She looks so big! By that I mean old enough to flirt sweetly at all her admirers.
ReplyDeleteGuenther House is our absolute favorite thing in San Antonio! I order their coffee for gifts. Took my nephew there when he was 6....he is 15 now and still talks about it. Fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteZoe's dolls are still "baby Sarah"
Sarah is precious! Blog is funny!
